Your cover story “Can RTI finally transform India? (TSI, March 8-14) clearly revealed the fact that the Right to Information Act is a potent device to weed out corruption from government institutions. It’s also a perfect indicator to measure the level of corruption in the country. But unfortunately, it is observed that the provision of RTI Act is being misused by a large number of people for settling personal and family disputes. RTI success stories can also be found in every nook and corner as the act gives freedom to the Indian citizens to access information from the highest public echelons. The act is as essential as the freedom of speech and freedom of expression granted by the Constitution. As the act is also being misused, some modifications are required as RTI is now fully geared up.
