The next superpower?

 

 

The latest issue was like an important historic document (TSI, Dec 28-Jan 10). Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri's editorial was heart-bleeding and head-whirling. If agriculture disappears from Indian soil, what else would be left behind? Man-made deserts and newly constructed marble palaces for the 35 billionaires? The day all our farmers would end up in graveyards or stop producing crops due to our functioning anarchy's glorious policies, shall we eat computers and put up tents under the flyovers? Primary education, agriculture and basic health services are the most basic necessities for any human society. Those who sacrificed their lives for our independence had always dreamt of those basic things to be achieved for all. The first decade of the new millennium is already over. And where are we? With "new begging bowls"? Once a big honcho has concluded: "Right now it is the 35 against 800 millions - that is India!"
