The madness of big Wes!

 

 

Nu Metal, Rapcore, Industrial Rock, Metal Rock – be it any genre and Wes Borland could dish up some wild head banging for the audiences. The former guitarist of Limp Bizkit, Wesley Louden Borland, was born on 7 February, 1975 and has grown into a notable musician who has influenced the evolution of 21st century music. His untamed creativity surfaced in his music and his face – a canvas for the dark and bizarre imagery for his songs.

Wes Borland’s musical work goes back to his eventful association with Limp Bizkit, after splitting from which he conceptualised two other bands – Big Dumb Face and Eat the Day. And while those two didn’t really set stadiums on wild fire, Wes’ undaunted spirit has now led him to create Black Light Burns, which is an American gothic/alternative rock band. Danny Lohner (of Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle), Josh Eustis (of Telefon Tel Aviv) and Josh Freese (of The Vandals, A Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails) joined Wes in his brand new band and their debut album Cruel Melody hit the stands on 5 June, 2007. The enigmatic superstar, the hero of a generation, is chock-a-block with innovative ideas that seek to harmonise his music with his artwork. Wes defines it all through his creations and through his unique aura of synchronized creativity. For, Wes Borland belongs to that category of artists who perfectly project realism even while unleashing their vivid imagination, blending perfectly and effortlessly, appealing both to the ears and the eyes. With the recent release of Black Light Burns’ debut album, the fans can catch Wes doubling up on vocals along with playing the guitar. Those who wish to catch Wes live – in the flesh and in their face – flanked by his all new band, bookings can still be done for the live acts as the band is touring till August.

Did music inspire you to begin drawing?

I started to draw before I started to play. I began drawing when I was only a year old.

You had a wonderful stint with Limp Bizkit. What made you leave the band?

I was associated with the band for seven years. It started well and I gave it my best shot. But there was a lot of aggravation, and the anxiety was working up. There were some projects which I wished would happen, but they never happened. I have done some silly records with Limp Bizkit. I stayed off (music) after Limp Bizkit for long. I started feeling that the forces of nature were pushing me back... My fans wanted me back, and so I gave it another shot. And so I am back with the same craziness, spray paint, make up…!

I’m back with Black Light Burns and our album released on 5th June.

What are the aspects you look into before joining a band?

To be a part of a band, I should be able to write. I like lots of creativity. I want that people should work and be able to play well. There should be no stopping... And respect too is very important.

When do you plan to settle down and enjoy a married life?

I was married for seven years. But for now, I don’t think I will get married again anytime soon.
