The launch of satellite TV in India The launch of satellite TV in India had definitely opened a very new avenue to gain information of the world and also have an access to all the top rated shows broadcasted in USA. The biggest advantage of launching satellite TV was that the updates of the Gulf War was provided to Indians and sitting here, through CNN, we were provided with all the information and all the happenings of the Gulf War.

Star was the first channel to be launched as Star Plus which showed all those popular foreign TV shows. Since then Star TV has come a long way and has still maintained that same amount of viewers. People say that the content is regressive but ultimately that's what is being watched! Through satellite TV, social messages like promoting the use of ORS, for the first time created a mass awareness. Satellite TV has, over a period of time, really improved the content and the standard of shows. And the next big thing would be when everything goes digital. (1990)
