Spooky glow

 

 

Situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, Brown Mountain is the home of “Famous spook-light occurrences”. First witnessed on September 13, 1913, by a group of fishermen, these spooky lights, appearing just above the horizon on a nightly basis, are a mystery. Locals claim that the lights are so punctual that, “you could set your watch by them”. It is been years that these lights have baffled its observers.

There are numerous eye witness accounts of these spooky lights, one of which was made during the year of 1925 by Robert Sparks Walker, a scientist observing these lights. He says, “The descriptions of the strange lights given by various observers do not match. Some of them say that it is pale white, observed through a ground-glass globe, with a faint, irregular halo encircling it while others describe it as a ball of yellow light, which appeared to them like a star from a bursting skyrocket, but much brighter, which only lasted for half-a-minute”. Mr Walker, apparently also discovered the fact that only three per cent of these lights are unexplained, most of them being explained as a direct result of automobiles, trains and stationery lights. Well done Mr Walker! However, the geophysical phenomenon behind these three per cent mystery lights, still remains unexplained.
