This is in response to story, “Another storm in the T cup” (TSI, Dec 21-27). The Centre has committed a big botch by compromising on the demand for a separate state of Telangana. It's true that the struggle for an independent Telangana is over four decades old and no government in Andhra Pradesh has ever made any sincere attempts to develop the region and the decision by the government abides testimony to its ineffectiveness. The Centre's decision to bifurcate Andhra will pave way for similar demands by other states. The people of Telangana will lose the advantages they gain from agriculturally rich coastal area and mineral rich Rayalaseema. Bifurcating Andhra Pradesh is not the answer for backwardness. The vote-bank politics is making a bid to mislead people and spread regionalism.
