Instead of allying with Congress, Mulayam Singh Yadav led Samajwadi Party (SP) may opt for Independents and others to form a government in Uttar Pradesh, say highly placed sources in the party.

According to reports, a question is haunting the SP leadership that in case they don't get a simple majority then whose support party would like to take.

The SP leadership seems hesitating to take Congress support fearing it has to share the government with the Congress and other pulls and pressure associated with it. So in this regard the SP is looking for other options like allying with smaller parties and Independents like Apna Dal, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Peace Party.

Though the mood outside SP office is upbeat in Lucknow but the question lingering is who will become the chief minister of UP. Whether Mulayam will take over state's rein or will he handover the baton to his son Akhilesh Yadav is the larger question.
