Soumitra Chatterjee to get Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, named for this year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime achievement, on Wednesday said the highest honour in the Indian cinema was a recognition to his lifelong work laced with love of people.

"People's love, which is my capital, largely contributed to this honour which is a recognition of my lifelong work," the actor told a TV channel.

He said that the honour vindicates his faith in the countrymen. "It gives me a feeling that my work has not gone unnoticed."

Soumitra turned nostalgic at the news of the honour, saying "I very much remember my seniors in film world...Chhabi

Biswas, Tulsi Chakraborty."

"I miss my elders...mentor Satyajit Ray, my teacher Tapan Sinha who are no more," he said.

To a question, Soumitra (77) said that he had plans for many more work. Filmmaker Sandip Ray wished Soumitra "all the best" and more and more work in days to come.
