Shameful behaviour

 

 

Arindam Chaudhuri's writeup regarding the shameful treatment being given to Taslima Nasreen (TSI February 24, 2008), raised a vital question. Can we still claim that India is the world's largest democracy? We have fallen below our own standards by imposing illegal imprisonment to an individual whose crime is open expression of her opinion. I do not understand the hue and cry over her writings. It is, indeed, shameful that we can behave in such a derogatory manner and deny a creative person the freedom she deserves. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of TSI to focus on this issue. TSI chose to support the cause of Taslima Nasreen instead of merely speculating on her views and perspective. Also, this article is a step towards mass awakening. If we do not wake up, then our motherland shall soon lose it's democratic status.
