Senior CPI(M) leader and chief whip of Left Front in West Bengal Assembly Abdur Rezzak Mollah may boycott two-day state secretariat meet starting April 28 in Kolkata, say party sources.
According to sources, Mollah is upset with the party leadership after he was ignored at the recently concluded Party Congress in Kerala. He also seems miffed with the party as he was refused the post of secretary of South 24 Parganas district.
The meet for the newly constituted state secretariat, the highest decision making body of the state, is scheduled on April 28 and 29 at Muzaffar Ahmed Bhawan.
Mollah, who was the land reform minister in the erstwhile Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government, was critical of Singur and Nandigram issues.
Even before opposition raised its voice against land acquisition in Bengal, Mollah in 2006 had warned the party about ‘Land Sharks’ saying, “If I open my mouth, there will be tremors in villages”.
Unlike other state party leaders, Rezzak Mollah has solid support base in agrarian segment and poor Bengali Muslims.
Upright and outspoken, Rezzak had even attributed the defeat of the party to the then CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
According to Mollah's close associates, “State and District leaders have plotted to push him to the corner. Even his endevour to express himself at the Party Congress was prevented. He spoke to Rabin Dev several times during the Congress but didn’t recommend his name in the list of six speakers from Bengal.”
According to reports, Rezzak told his followers that he is disappointed with the proceedings and decisions taken at the recently held party Congress in Kerala.
A miffed associate of Mollah vented his anger at senior party bosses, saying “Party ‘Bog Bosses’, responsible for party’s debacle are again climbing the top posts. This party would not be able to struggle for the poor farmers.”
Rezzak is now considering to abstain from the party'smeeting despite his followers requesting him to be present in the meeting and register his protest.
