The ‘season’ed traveller goes now
May to August is when the sun beats down fuzzy on the country. Leave it to the Icelanders to brave the rest of the seasons.
‘Savour’faire
Prefer ‘Black Death’? Don’t worry, just one of the potato-and-caraway flavoured schnapps, also called brennivín. What about seal flippers or pickled ram’s testicles? The less adventurous may hit one of the many cafes in the capital city of Reykjavik.
Get to work
Bathe in the naturally steaming Blue Lagoon pool renowned for its therapeutic mud and minerals. Go horseback riding into the true-to-postcard settings around Heiðmörk Nature Park and Mt. Helgafell. Witness the recurrent hot outbursts – of the water kind – at the Geysir hot spring. If you begin to miss the urban trappings, rush back to Reykjavik; it’ll feel like in the heart of Europe.
What’s the word?
Start with “Ég tala bara
ensku” (‘I only speak English’) and hope you have a good day!
Keepsake Courtesies
Viking figurines, jewellery or why, a finely crafted Viking ship for the mantle…
