The ‘season’ed traveller goes now
Spring and Autumn are good times to be in Switzerland, but Summer (June-September) is perfect for stepping outdoors. Bloom on... June-July is when the alpine wildflowers are in full bloom.
‘Savour’ faire
With about 450 varieties to choose from, the Swiss are very choosy about their cheese. Great speciality is fondue, a delicious concoction of melted Gruyère and Vacherin cheese, mixed with white wine, flour, Kirsch and a little garlic. Did someone say bon appétit…
Get to work
Catch a train from wherever you are to the Jet d’Eau (fountain) in Geneva. Take a boat from Lausanne to Evian in France situated on the south bank of Lake Geneva. Mountains are 60% of Swiss land; take the gravity defying train from Interlaken to the top of Europe – the Jungfrau Peak or simply go hiking, ice climbing, glacier walking, snow boarding, snow golf, dog-sledding, and skiing, where else but in the Swiss Alps.
What’s the word?
Depending on which part of Switzerland you are in, you’ll say ‘Danke’ for ‘Thank you ‘in German, ‘Merci beau coup’ in French and ‘Grazie’ in Italian.
Keepsake courtesies
Cowbells, watches, wine and chocolates; you’ll need an extra bag on your way back. A Swiss Army Knife by Wenger SA or Victorinox, makes for a good souvenir too…
