One day when he was standing near a pan shop, Ashok Parmar heard the shop owner talking of the nexus between local politicians and the underworld. He continued to speak on how local goons who entered politics had a bad fate as most of them either got gunned down or stabbed in broad day light. Ashok also learnt that a local office bearer of AnandNagarpalika was close to a local mafioso and both had common business interests. Ashok started researching the politician – mafia nexus. He started a series on this and the whole milk city shook up. Ashok wrote, “Local politicians who come from the underworld have not met with good fortune and all of them have lost their lives due to their illicit relationships.” His report was so “outrageous” for some leaders that they tried to stop this series. But his editor cum proprietor backed him and gave him a free hand to uncover the unholy nexus between politicians and goons. Ashok would get blank calls from time to time, hearing only intimidating silence when he took the calls. His Kadi Duniya Lal Daba (A dark world with a red stain) got immense popularity. Even the police, who were shaken out of inaction by his reports, appreciated his work, albeit reluctantly. With this brilliant series of reporting Ashok served the people of Anand as a true son of the soil.
