I completely agree with Justice V.R.Krishna Iyers’ view (TSI, 23 July 2007) that Indian sovereignty should not be surrendered before the American nuclear ambitions. The recent docking of the nuclear powered USS Nimitz in Chennai and US Secretary of State Condeleeza Rice’s remark that countries like India should distance themselves from the Non - Aligned Movement (NAM) are clear indications of American pressure on India. American sponsored nuclear energy’ can neither be a solution to our energy crisis nor bring peace, as it is completely backed by territorial and resource ambition of United States. American refusal to ratify the Kyoto protocol is a ‘glittering’ example of its greediness. India needs to act diligently with regard to the nuclear deal and should ensure that we are in no way a party to nuclear terrorism.
