Rama C. Mohanty- professor of nuclear Physics, activist, a human rights advocate, Nobel Prize nominee, passed away at the age of 75. Born in Patpur, Orissa, Mohanty obtained a scholarship to Pennsylvania State University, where he earned his PhD in physics, the youngest student in his class. He served as professor and chairman of the Physics Department at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Physics Professor at Louisiana State University, Southern University, University of California at Berkeley, and Chairman of the Physics Department at New York State University. He established the Southern Research Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences at Southern University. In 1964, he founded and served as general secretary of the Institute of All Nations, a private, nonprofit corporation which adopted a resolution that World Peace Day be observed internationally each October 1 which was approved by the Louisiana state legislature. He also founded the Louisiana World Peace Day Committee.
