Privy Purse goes

 

 

The abolition of Privy Purse in 1971 was an irritant for the Princely House of Jaipur and did affect the well being of the family, but it hardly affected their lifestyle. For Brigadier HH Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh, his career in the army was more important. While the government of India was making laws to abolish the Privy Purse, Bhawani Singh was leading the 9 Para into war against Pakistan, across the boarder in Barmer, a battle in which his gallantry earned him a Mahaveer Chakra. Late Highness Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II was foresighted enough to convert his properties into business propositions, which Bhawani Singh, after return as an Ambassador to Brunei – after his distinguished service in the Indian Army – carried into successful ventures. He also reorganised his Trusts during this period. (1971)
