Prez election should be on consensus: Rajnath Singh

Participating in an event on Tuesday, the former BJP President Rajnath Singh said that the President election should be on consensus. 

 

"President of India is a very important post in the Indian democracy and such an important matter should be decided only on consensus," said Singh.

 

Party spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman also voiced the same opinion. "My take is the party's take and it is the party's perogative as to decide on the name," said Sitaraman. She also added that the things will shape up depending on Congress's stand as well.

 

 On being questioned whether the BJP has decided any name for the Presidential post, the party spokesperson said that they haven't decided yet and will disclose the name as soon as they decide it. The party earlier was weighing in on the name of APJ Abdul Kalam for the President nominee.

 

The top notch leaders of BJP were attending a book release function which was an biography of veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani. 'Those were the days and Then' based on LK Advani's life before and after the partition is documented by Mira Govind Advani, who knows the BJP leader for a long time. The event was attended by heavy weights of BJP and had the top leaders of the party attending the event. 

 

BJP President Nitin Gadkari released the book, while Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj was the chief Guest. Apart from them other BJP leaders present at the event were Rajnath Singh, Jaswant Singh, V.K. Malhotra, Vijendra Gupta and Nirmala Sitaraman.

 

All the guests present at the event relived the moments they spent with Advani and how they were inspired by him. Jaswant Singh said that one should learn from Advani's life and should try and imbibe it in our personal life. He congratulated Mira Advani on the occasion and added that from his own expereince he can say that it is not easy to write a book leaving the audience into splits.

 

"The reason that the BJP is standing where it is today in the form of national party is beacuse of the hard work of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani," said Gadkari.

 

Though the event was politically inclined it was made clear that the event will steer clear from the political agenda and so no poltical query was answered. When questionedaboutthe growing distance between Narendra Modi and some of the BJP and NDA leaders, Nirmala Sitaraman said that there is no animosity betweena any party leaders and that there is no such discussion happening on that front.
