The dial-100 initiative started by Orissa police commissionerate July last has received a warm response from people. According to report the police control room received 58,708 calls in the month of July through this dial-100 service.
After receiving the call, the modern police control room has given a boost to policing and rendering a swift action and assistance to people in the capital. Over 190 persons injured in different accident or other incidents have been immediately attended by the PCR (police control room) van and taken to the hospital.
The highest numbers of calls received in a single day, July 5, was on 1,830. Besides shifting injured to the hospital the PCR van have also rescued eight women and two minors and placed them with short stay homes. More than 48 burglars were caught red-handed, while 12 unclaimed vehicles have been recovered from across the city.
After the success of its PCR van patrolling, the city police now also started motorcycle-patrolling to help the people as well as to keep control over law and order situation. A squad has been formed which comprises havildar as well as constable. Each squad are equipped with advance GPS tracking system for quick access as well as tracing of movement. They have been deployed in all the major localities of the city.
