P.C. Joshi

 

 

Friends and well-wishers address the 63-year-old P.C. Joshi as “Congressi jija”. And why not? He is after all the husband of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Chief spokesperson of the Congress, Subodh Srivastava has been close to Joshi's family ever since he was a child. He has some fond memories to share about the long association. An engineer by profession, Joshi retired as General Manager of Triveni Constructions. Srivastava says, “Joshi is soft-spoken and a man blessed with an attractive personality.”

Rita Joshi, who has in recent months been in the news in circumstances beyond her control, maintains that but for the unstinted support that she received from her husband she would probably never have ventured into politics, leave alone make it big in the hurly-burly of electoral battles.

Joshi is said to be extremely proud of the achievements of his wife. In the absence of Rita, he goes all out to take care of the needs of party workers. At election time, he effortlessly slips into the crucial role of Rita Bahuguna's cheif poll agent. The fact that his wife has had a comfortable run in politics so far is a measure of the man's success.

Even today, when Rita Bahuguna finds herself in the the thick of the action, busy building the organisation in India's largest state, .PC. Joshi stahds firm behind her. He spends time in Allahabad to nurture her constituency. As Rita has always been active in Allahabad, her husband carefully nursed her constituency. He actively participates in social events as much in his personal capacity as on behalf of his high-profile wife. The couple has a married son, Mayank.
