Payback Time for Rohit Sharma Just a few days ago, Indian cricket team selectors were under attack from all quarters over the inclusion of Rohit Sharma for World T20 in Sri Lanka. It was a gamble taken by the selectors as Rohit has failed to prove his worth in the team but the way he is playing in the World T20 has given selectors a huge sigh of relief.

Selectors’ decision to pick Rohit Sharma was a surprising one as he has been out of form for past one year. Rohit had struggled to notch a meager 212 runs from his last 15 ODI appearances for the Team India. An innings of 68 against arch-rivals Pakistan during the Asia Cup earlier this year is the only noticeable contribution from the cricketer before leaving to Sri Lanka for the World T20 cup.

During the bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka just before the World T20 which India won 4-1, Rohit struggled miserably and managed to score just 13 runs from 5 innings (5, 0 , 0 , 4 , 4). Given the form he was in, his selection had real doubts cluttering over the team’s strategy. But somehow, he managed to book a berth in the Team India.

Acknowledging the importance of the two warm up matches prior to the mega event, Rohit scored valuable 37 and 56 runs against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.

These two knocks were enough for the Indian skipper MS Dhoni to include Rohit in both the league matches of the World T20.Though, Rohit didn’t get much chance to bat against Afghanistan in their World T20 opener but responded with a 33 ball 55 runs knock and top scored for India in the last group A match against the defending champions England.

India has marched into the Super Eight stage and probably the wait is over for Rohit Sharma to get his name registered amongst the match winners for Team India.

India topped the Group A and now is in the group of death Australia, Pakistan and South Africa. Looking at the current form of the opponents, Rohit Sharma looks set to produce the desired results for his captain and do justice with his role in the team.

However, few handful innings is probably not good enough to analyse the true status of any cricketer but looking at the immense talent and skills Rohit Sharma possess it’s the perfect occasion for him to carry on with valuable scores and justify the faith shown on him by the team management who has given him a decent enough account for his temperament. It’s payback time!
