Yet another day of Parliament was lost on Wednesday to pandemonium over Tuesday's police action on BJP youth wing workers protesting against corruption here, with BJP demanding resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram.
BJP accused Chidambaram of ordering the police lathicharge on its youth wing workers here and its members created uproar in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, disrupting proceedings from the time the Houses met for the day.
Senior BJP leader L K Advani met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to complain that the police action against the youth wing workers might have been ordered by Chidambaram.
Leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley demanded Chidambaram's resignation as they alleged that the "corrupt" government was resorting to "brutality" as it did not like anyone to protest against corruption.
In Parliament, both the Houses were adjourned for an hour because of the uproar when they met for the day at 11 AM. Similar situation persisted, forcing the Chair in the Rajya Sabha to adjourn the House till Thursday while the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM before being adjourned for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members trooped into the Well shouting slogans, 'lathi-goli ki sarkar, nahin chalegi' (government wielding lathis and firing bullets will not be tolerated). Demanding Chidambaram's resignation, they displayed large-sized photographs of wounded workers as also the banners against the government.
As the BJP members were protesting in the well, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal and AIADMK stood up in support.
