Odisha rights panel seeks report on quality of milk

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought status report within three weeks from the state government on the quality of milk supplied in the state.

The rights commission has asked for the report in wake of widespread adulteration in the milk supply in the state.

“The OHRC has sought a status report from the state's fisheries and animal resource development department which supplies packaged milk through Odisha Milk Federation (OMFED)," said, OHRC register C R Mohapatra.
 
Meanwhile,  Odisha Co-operative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED), returned 3,350 liters of  milk to farmers due to its sub-standard quality.

“We have returned 700 liters in Nimapada region, 300 liters in Gop region, 300 liters in Adasapur region and 2000 liters in Kendrapara region. This milk was found to be of low quality,”  Satyabrat Sahu, OMFED Managing Director.

OMFED has taken this measure after a survey by  Food Safety Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI) which revealed that 14 percent of the milk  samples collected from Odisha were found to be non-conforming  of  eatable standards because of the presence of traces of detergent.
