‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ should perhaps qualify as the worst film of 2008. Of course, there is stiff competition from Jimmy, One Two Three and the like but this one should win hands down. The film is of questionable quality for sure and here are a few questions I have been grappling with myself. One, how does a star like Govinda decide to sign up for a movie that has ‘dud’ written all over it in bright neon lights? Govinda’s star value might have upped the promotional value but also heightened the disappointment. Two, why exactly was the scriptwriter of this film paid, I cannot fathom. The story is so bizarre (a businessman starts dialing people at random to assign the inheritors of his fortune) and the script is so full of plot holes that it doesn’t even make nonsense. And three, when you have acting ‘talent’ like Upen Patel, Hansika and Celina Jaitley on board, audiences are advised to bolt for the exit before the stampede begins. Money Hai… totally fails to deliver on a single sane parameter of a normal, earnestly made movie. The moment someone chose
that title, the movie was doomed. And yes, it is not just the bombs that kept audiences out of multiplexes last weekend.
