The Chattisgarh government has announced that there will be no power cut in the state. But a few people are not taking the government's claim seriously as the electricity tariff for domestic consumers has been increased.

Moreover, the situation in rural areas of the state can be said to be even worse. In a state claiming to have surplus electricity, people in the villages have to suffer power cuts. Things have come to such a pass that industrialists and traders have expressed their deep concern over the recent power situation in the state.

They are unable to figure out why is it happening to a state that sells electricity to other states in India. Besides, the State Electricity Board has also been rocked with alleged corruption charges. The rise in price of electricity is going to directly have impact on some two crore domestic consumers in the state, according to experts. The revised power tariff has been widely criticized by people in the state.

Chhattisgarh with Delhi is among top five power-selling states selling in India. Also, the government has claimed that Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSB) is making profit. If this is so then why has the electricity tariff been hiked? Why electricity is not being supplied in villages for five hours a day? This and other questions are being debated.

It is understood that electricity producing companies have hiked the tariff so that they could make more profit. Electricity tariff for domestic consumers has gone up immensely. Even farmers will have to pay more for electricity. Further the people living below poverty line (BPL) will have to pay electricity bill if they consume more than 30 units per month.

The government's power policy has withdrawn scathing criticism not only from people but industrialists also. In a press release, the Urla Industry Association has slammed the government.
