Stung by reports in news websites including TSI and TV channels on the large number of refills of cooking gas cylinders by VVIPs, the petroleum ministry on Friday dismissed the consumption data from LPG Transparency Portal as factually incorrect.
‘Press reports, suggesting misuse of subsidy, based on number of LPG cylinders supplied as per consumption data from LPG Transparency Portal are factually incorrect’, the statement from Petroleum Ministry said adding as per the current rules and regulations there is no limit on the number of cylinders consumed by any individual.
However, Petroleum Ministry said it has a proposal for limiting the consumption of subsidised cylinder for all LPG consumers in order to rationalize the consumption of subsidized LPG cylinders.
While this proposal is under consideration, the launch of LPG Transparency Portal is another initiative that intends to bring about transparency in the entire LPG supply chain by providing access to LPG supply data to all the LPG consumers and civil society. It is expected that proactive use of this Portal will bring about efficiency in LPG supplies, thereby enabling MoPNG to improve the supply of subsidized LPG to its citizens.
