No gratitude till you die... While questions are being routinely raised as to why the Mumbai police could not prevent the carnage of 26/11 and nab the terrorists before all of it happened, has anybody wondered what would have happened if the terrorists were nabbed or killed in encounters before they could set foot in the Taj or Trident Hotel or the CST Terminus? And imagine if none of the policemen had got killed! In that case, it would have been a ‘no show’ and none would have cared two hoots about it, forget about showing gratitude. On the contrary, those very policemen who are being now termed martyrs would have been on the back foot for killing the terrorists, which the civil society activists would have ceremonially stamped as fake encounters. People would have been on the streets with placards led by pseudo civil activists and fake liberals who spare no occasion to label the police as 'trigger happy' and who would always term any alleged terrorist as innocent being falsely implicated by the police. And the very television media busy claiming credits for their coverage of 26/11, would have sidelined the issue. Every time police thwarted a terror attack or killed a gangster, its genuine efforts have been pooh -poohed in this very manner by the people who would repose more faith in the glib talk of the media savvy civil activists.

Inspector Vijay Salaskar, who was killed on that dreaded night, was no ordinary police officer. He once belonged to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Crime Branch. There, he along with Daya Nayak, Pradeep Sharma and Praful Bhosle were responsible for literally making Mumbai out of bounds for the underworld. If Dawood Ibrahim and his coterie bid adieu to Mumbai for a safer haven across borders and if Mumbai has been freed from the suffocating clutches of the underworld, then its simply because of the 'jaw for the tooth' attitude of CIU, which has to its credit the killing of more than 500 gangsters in Mumbai. Yet how has the city rewarded the men of CIU? Well, Daya Nayak has been suspended, Pradeep Sharma has been dismissed from service while Praful Bhonsle is fighting a case for the alleged killing of Kwaja Yunus, an accused in the Ghatkopar blast. The witness in this case is shockingly none other than another accused of the Ghatkopar blast, namely Abdul Mateen. Certainly Abdul Mateen is no Paramveer Chakra winning patriot. Yet, every concerned party has more faith in his version than what Praful Bhonsle has to say. Thus, if Ajmal Amin Kasab 's mates were killed before 26/11 could happen, the very same Mumbai and its civil rights activists would have fought for Kasab and put him as a witness for the so-called 'fake encounters' of his fellow mates. Most would have believed that innocents were murdered cold bloodedly by police to score brownie points. The rest would have been history.

Every time an encounter happens, many question why policemen don’t die. Through death, Vijay Salaskar and his men proved them wrong. If policemen die less in numbers, it is because they often have the first mover advantage in encounters just as this time the terrorists had it. Through death Vijay Salaskar vindicated that encounters by CIU were not fake and can never be fake, the disgusting attitude and hypocrisy of India’s human rights activists and fake liberals notwithstanding.
