Nation's sizzling hot actress from the 80's is all set to hit the silver screen in a new avatar in Bollywood. With almost a decade and a half after calling retirement, impish diva from the 80's is currently working in a new film English Vinglish, a Hindi-Tamil-Telugu trilingual directed by Gauri Shinde, wife of R Balki. She took a break after getting married to director producer Boney Kapoor for raising her two girls.

The film has roped in French actor Mehdi Nebbou and Adil Hussain and also casts Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance. The comeback diva is playing the lead role that of an Indian married woman in a western household setting, who joins a English learning program to cope with the pressure from the family. The film narrates the journey of an Indian woman who sets out to find an identity for herself in the alien land.

The film is set for release later this year, however, the first look of the film was released in June 2011. In the trailor she has been shown struggling to read the censor certificate of the trailer. The trailor was an instant hit among the audience over internet, especially Youtube. The news of Sridevi's comeback also topped the chart on other social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Sridevi was born on 13 August. She made her debut as a child artist in Tamil language film Kandan Karunai in 1969 and continued to work as child artist in various regional language films including Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam and Kannada films. She made her debut as an adult in the late 1970s. In 1975, she worked as a child artist in Bollywood film Julie and earned instant recognition across entire north India.

She very soon established herself as a top actress in the south Indian industry with hits like Meendum Kokila in 1981, Moondram Pirai in 1982 and Kshana Kahanam in 1991. Interestingly, the time she was taking a leap in the south Indian film Industry, the stars like Rajnikanth and Kamal Hasan were also rising stars. Soon with a series of blockbusters with both Hasan and Rajnikanth, she carved an iconic image for herself in the tamil film industry.

However, she earned acclaim in Bollywood with several top charts like Sadma in 1983, Nagina in 1986, Mr. India in 1987, Chandni and Chalbaaz in 1989, Lamhe in 1991, Khuda Gawah in 1982 and Judaai in 1997. In Bollywood too, she got roles against the leading stars in the eighties. Interestingly with her debut in the Hindi films, trademark south Indian style dances were introduced in the Hindi films. Her pairing with Jitendra led to series of superhits  and she began to be acknowledged as top actress in the hindi cinema.

With such popularity in Bollywood and regional language films she established herself as the First Female Suprestar in the Indian cinema. Unfortunately, she called her retirement  in 1997 to raise her kids.  It was in 1983 film Sadma, against Kamal Hasan , where she played the role of a yough girl suffering from amnesia, that she earned acclaim and  her first Filmfare nomination for best Actress. And then Shekhar Kapur's Mr. India established her as a top actress in Hindi cinema.
