Movie Review: Man of Steel

Zach Snyder, the director of the stylistic ‘300’, takes the reins of the man of steel in this reboot of the world’s most famous superhero.

The first thing you would notice when you start watching the film is that it is very different from the previous ones in the sense that the flying and the action sequences are almost subdued. They are present no doubt, but unlike earlier, there is a strong emotional tug behind every action Superman takes.

The plot takes us back to the origins, which tells the now familiar story without any major surprises. The young Clark Kent is sent to Earth by his parents to save him from perishing in the civil war which plagued Kryptonite. However, the rebellious  villain General Zod reaches Earth to genetically create new Kryptonians and kill off humanity.

Henry Cavill plays the role of Superman perfectly. He is one of those few actors who can do emotional as well as action at the blink of an eye. Not only that, but the way he delivered his dialogues, makes it feel, that even though he is from this world, he never truly belongs to it. Russell Crowe, playing Clark Kent’s Earth-dad also does a brilliant job.

Produced by Christopher Nolan, with a script by David S. Goyer, Man of Steel is a deep, gritty take on Superman, and one which is a must watch this summer.
