Meet the eye

It refers to “His Last Mission,” (TSI, June 7-13). Kudos to you for bringing up this critical issue otherwise we would have been unaware of such gross violations and favours meted out to Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal. There is no harm in setting up a university –as it is a great noble cause for the society. But if he wants to do this on 8000 acre land, then points like – residential facilities to be developed by third party developers, 20 years tax holidays, in-house thermal power plant in the campus definitely raise an eyebrow and it surely warrants not only an answer from the Vedanata but the state government as well. There is surely more to it than meets the eye and there are so many things which are not known to the people of holy city of Puri. The trustee of the temple has sold this precious land at throwaway prices because of some vested interests. Land acquisition has always been a topic of great concern because it involves dislocation of poor people and their resettlement to other areas. This issue requires a full-fledged inquiry and sooner it takes place better it is. Hopefully, the Centre is reading this piece. And Naveen Patnaik, who is otherwise one of the cleanest politicians, will have to answer more than a few questions in this regard.
