Master magician K Lal of Gujarat passes away

Leaving behind his impact across the world audience, renowned magician Kantilal Girdharilal Vora, nicknamed as K Lal passed away on Sunday at his residence in Ahmedabad. 
He was 88 and is survived by his wife Pushpa, son Hasmukh Vora who is famous as a Junior K.Lal and two daughters. The veteran magician was suffering from a serious ailment.
A master of spelling musical illusions, K Lal was born in January 1924 in Bagsra near Rajkot. He performed for his last show in Ahmedabad in June this year. 
Although he hailed from a merchant family but family business was not his cup of tea. He learned magic tricks from the then famous magician Ganpaty Chakravarty. He had adopted his stage name as K. Lal on the basis of his ration card. During his 62 years career, K. Lal held 22,479 stage shows across the world which is a record. He had won around 5,000 national and international awards.
Meanwhile, cutting across party lines several political leaders and Gujarati film stars visited his residence on Ashram Road to pay last homage.
Expressing his grief over the demise of the veteran magician, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "World renowned magician and proud son of Gujarat, K Lal left us today. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to his family."
