Make way while the sun shines! That’s right… All that dinner-by-daylight gush about the Scandic is not just hyperlinked hyperbole, for it’s true that in the summer months, there’ll be days together to be waited on for a glimpse of the ‘dark’. And here on this supremely beautiful floating hinterland called Iceland, it needn’t only be one’s love for the benevolent Arctic sun, but even anything remotely (very remote, for sure!) spaced-out and peaceful.

Having soft-pedalled the brilliant allure reposed in the reaches of this North Atlantic island, its much-vaunted – not without reason – geothermal pools and hot springs lay bare an experience balmy enough to humble the coldest hubris hardened by time and reality TV! Anyway, the ruddy & cheery Icelanders – whatever little number, theirs – are usually too – what else but – ‘chilled’ out to let you be stuck up with anything but holiday on your mind! What if not a perfect holiday is it to amble along misty valleys spray-dewed by milky waterfalls like the Gullfoss (Golden) Falls, or go fishing in the Kvíslárveitur region while towering mountains look over? While there is enough fish to bait for leisure and for revenue, Iceland lately decided to not let go unhooked the biggest ones, the whales, either as it resumed commercial whaling in the past season, the debate about which is definitely not for the travel page!

As you acknowledge the ‘red-carpet’ welcome in the lava-laden countryside undulating with high-activity volcanoes, your thoughts – and your camera – get busy marvelling at the diverse splendour of Iceland, the land that has known the sweet-voiced Björk as well as the hoarse war-cries of the Vikings…
