MADRE MIA!! “We are best of friends – my mum and I. It was not always the case, though. It took a considerable amount of time to get close to each other. In my school days, my day was strictly divided between school, studies, music classes and playing time, and I found it too harsh. Those were the days of bickering and cribbing. Besides, when one hails from a conservative Marwhari family of Benares, one cannot follow dreams like of becoming a model. But, my mother stood with me through some tough decisions and egged me on to pursue my dream.

I’m an absolute replica of my mother, in more ways than one. In fact, looks apart, we even sound similar on the phone. I remember the good ol’ days when my friends used to call to talk to me, and my mom would play along, ending up talking to him/her for hours! What I miss most about staying at home are the compulsive shopping sessions and the endless hours we spent in the kitchen, brewing up experimental recipes and cuisines! I see my mother as a powerhouse of energy, a woman of substance. The way she manages the whole house is worth taking lessons! They were times when she was a strict mother and was firm in her interventions and stern with her advice on most things in my life. But there have been moments when she was my best buddy and kept things from dad for my sake. It must be hard for mothers to be anything else except moms to their kids, but my mum is all that and much more. She has really adapted well to playing the role of my friend... a true one.”
