Love thy student!

 

 

Love is not a crime. This was evident from the love affairs of Professor Matuk Nath Chaudhary and his student turned mistress Julie. It was in July 2006 when Chaudhary was arrested in Patna with her student Julie, amidst high drama after his wife alleged that he lured young girls by promising them higher marks. Both were released later on bail. Later it was revealed that the duo were in love. They openly accepted this fact.

Choudhary, 54, was a professor of Hindi in BN College of Patna University and Julie Kumari, 22, a student from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University. Their affair became famous and an example in modern India because they broke the barrier of teacher-student relationship and a vast difference of age. Although angry relatives and family members of Chaudhury's wife Abha blackened Choudhary's face and beat up Kumari in the premises of the police station, they continued to insist that they would not break this relationship. Interestingly, Choudhary said his wife had helped lure young women in the past. More interestingly, the unbeatable Lalu Prasad actually supported this and slammed the professor's suspension from job as 'wrong'. (2006)
