The debacle of the recently released 'Raavan' ('Raav-Yawn', TSI, June 28- July 11) did not go down well with many. This movie was appreciated at the foreign festivals but when it failed in India, criticism came from unexpected quarters. The failure cannot be pinpointed and to blame individuals is not fair. Cinema is a creative process and things can go wrong. Films have to be appreciated by the audience and promoting the film at foreign festivals will not help the cause. Bad cinema is bad and that's where the matter should end. Great directors can get it wrong. The final judgment lies with the viewer and not with the critics. They pay money and would expect value. Spending crores on films may create noise but a dud is a dud.
