You have rightly mentioned in your editorial that it’s simply calculated stupidity if the government and its enterprises don’t reap the benefits from the market. Our policymakers must learn from the market and utilise the potentials. Else, PSUs and other enterprise might have a dark future. The private banks or insurance companies are booming in different parts of the country but the paradox is that the government enterprises are not doing well. In your book ‘The Great India Dreams’, you had mentioned regarding the privatisation of airlines, that the Indians gave away busy routes like Delhi- Mumbai to private airlines while they kept the Delhi-Dibrugarh with them, though this flight was in loss. Government enterprise can also do better provided there is political will and people associated with PSUs are ready to learn from the market.
