Language barrier

 

 

This is with the reference to your article “Mother tongue advantage” (TSI, July 26-Aug 1). The engineering course in Tamil is useful for the lovers of Tamil language just to boast of it, but the careers of these students will certainly be in danger considering several issues. Understanding the scientific journals, knowing the latest developments from magazines, books or Internet is not easy for these students as many of these are in English. Referring two or three standard books for any difficult topic or subject will also be difficult for them as they are in English. Non- English speaking have no other option but to restrict themselves to Tamil Nadu for most part of their career.
