In a shocking lax of administration, as many as 430 acres of prime government land is reported to be encroached in several areas of Bhubaneswar. Due to the fast growth of urban landscape of Bhubaneswar, there is a mad rush for a piece of plot in any locality.
As the cost of land in Bhubaneswar has soared high, sometimes at par with major urban conglomerate like, Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru, the rate for the land fixed by the government is as such very much on higher side. The city has already been converted to a concrete jungle.
As the encroachment process is prevalent in the area, the builders and real-estate magnets are very active in grabbing the land and many corrupt government officials are also in this unscrupulous business.
There is mass encroachment of land as government has turned a blind eye over this process and as a result with the slightest opportunity people don’t hesitate in taking the unused land to their fold. According to General Administration Department total 430.148 acres of land covering an area of 44 revenue villages under Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) are illegally encroached.
Now the General Administration Department, Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation, Bhubaneswar Development Authority, and Police Commissinarate are collectively taking steps to release the land from encroachment. As many as 10,299 cases are already pending in the court of law.
