Journey from Facebook to Delhi Belly

Yes, it’s crazy. And it’s a perfect weekend movie. I am talking about Imran Khan starrer ‘Delhi Belly’. Done with the office work on Saturday, I thought it would be a great fun to go out and watch a movie (my idea of ultimate fun). But whosoever I asked, they had some or other problem. Difficulty in finding a company for a movie- the only disadvantage of being a single (for me at least)!! No vocab to describe how I missed my ex that day!

Friends- I have in abundance (lucky I am). But the problem is none is single at this moment. Obvious it is that they would want to watch this most awaited movie of the year with their beaus and girls. And I don’t want to be what you called...ya, ya…’kebaab me haddi’. Sad I was. Then suddenly, an idea struck my mind. I logged in to FB (Facebook) and posted a post on my wall. It says, “Dying to watch DB (Delhi Belly)…can anyone accompany me??” Just few mins later, I was flooded with comments. Yes, there were offers, discussions, debates, feedbacks and what not. By the way, before I posted that status, I called few of those who were commenting on my wall post; their mobile phones were either busy or not reachable at that time. But these lot were hyperactive on FB. This proves how FB has become one of our basic necessities of life apart from food, clothes and house. Then out of the blue, one of my old friends too popped up on the wall. He asked:

“Come at 7 at New Friend’s Colony.”

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“Yes,” he replied.

And in a matter of few seconds, my phone beeped. I opened the SMS and I saw the confirmation message of three tickets of ‘Delhi Belly’! Delighted, excited and elated I was. The day being a Saturday and on top of that it was Aamir Khan’s production, I never expected that I would ever get a ticket! Thanks a ton to that friend. I have no idea how he managed to get those seats! But I had an idea (that wall post). And it changed my life (okay, okay, a small part of it).

At 7 pm sharp, we four entered the theatre. Half naked fat ass welcomed us! Followed by ants, empty plates, crushed pants, open tap etc in a dingy room and how can one forget that antique door bell that produced irritating sound. This opening shot was more than enough to glue you onto your seat for the next 98 mins.

Then starts hilarious scenes after scenes where you can’t compromise your laughter with just a smile. Three bachelor friends-Taashi (Imran), Nitin (Kunal) and Arun (Vir)- (all three lazy) sharing a room in Delhi, you can imagine what must be the condition of the room. If you asked me, I can easily relate the room with my bro’s dwelling. Shirts resting somewhere on the floor, pants hanging from God knows where, leftover food in plates, insects freely roaming here and there-a typical bachelor’s room it is.

If I can relate that room with my bro’s, I can also relate Nitin’s bowel movement with mine (clarification: mine is not loud like his). The character of Nitin perfectly fits for the flatulence humour. He actually did justice to it with those loud farts and facial expression and those goose bumps due to the bowel pressure! Quite natural it looked like. There is this scene when Nitin relieves himself and there was no water, no tissue to clean. Then he goes out of the loo, opens the fridge unable to find any water there he takes those packets of juice and cleans himself up with that. You can very well imagine how sticky and messy the after effect must have been. Warning: many of you might stop consuming orange juice when you are done with the movie!

Tashi is a stringer and hates doing Page 3 reporting but has to do it to survive. Same is with the cartoonist Arun who abominates his boss like most of us do. The chemistry among the three actors looks so real that you can instantly connect with them. It will surely remind of your friends, your brothers or even you yourself during their/your struggle days.

Vijay Raaz as a don fits the character of a perfect villain. One must watch this movie to see how Raaz deals with his men and his enemy strictly and still able to make one laughs out loud. The other characters too did well in the movie but if you ask me, I will give 5 on 5 for Poorna Jaganathan who played the role of Menaka, a special correspondent. Her acting will surely spellbind many, at least it did to me, and so did Imran’s acting. Watch out for the best act of Imran till date.

Many would feel that Delhi has not been featured in the movie like it was in other Delhi-based films. But, there is a scene where the characters go to Old Delhi to get the smuggled diamonds back. In this scene, the Director Abhinay Deo has successfully depicted the chaos and cacophony environment of that area. And how bad is the experience of one who has to drive in that busy market.

Its chartbuster song ‘Bhaag DK Bose’ was played as a background song when the trio was on the run. Same is with other songs like ‘Bedargi Raja’, Saigal Blues etc except ‘I Hate You (Like I Love You) and ‘Jaa Chuddail’. Hats off to Music Director Ram Sampath. Both the songs have been picturised as a disco genre where the former song is an item number of none other than the perfectionist Aamir Khan, the producer of the movie.

All in all, ‘Delhi Belly’ is an adult comedy mixed with flatulence humour which will make you laugh till you shed those precious tears. So don’t wait but rush to the nearby theatre like I did. How? Call an FM radio station or post a status on FB, yes, for free tickets!!! As simple as that. Choice is yours!
