Jamshedpur to have Tagore archive soon

The steel city of Jamshedpur will soon have an archive of Rabindranath Tagore where the bard's letters, rare photographs and other memorabilia will be preserved.

The archive is being constructed within the Rabindra Bhawan campus at Sakchi here and is likely to be inaugurated in the last week of June, Ashis Chowdhury, general secretary of Tagore Society, Jamshedpur, said here.

Set up by the Society in collaboration with the Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, the first Tagore archive of Jharkhand is being built on the occasion of the poet-philosopher's 150th birth anniversary Monday, he said.

The Society, which also celebrates its golden jubilee this year, has decided to observe a year-long celebration with launching of three-day programme from Monday, Chowdhury said.

The archive, to be set up at a cost of over Rs five lakhs, will showcase Tagore's genius in literary, social, political and cultural field.
