It is not yet over Mr. Singhvi

Way back, once I had gone to Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s office. It was his private office (not his chamber in a court let me clarify). I remember, the wait was a long one in spite of the fact that my visit was in response to a previous appointment. As in customary, I was informed, “Saheb busy hain, he is on a conference call”. I am sure; Mr. Singhvi’s office would have told someone waiting out this one time, “Saheb busy hain, client ke saath”.

The CD or the talk of it which has spread like wildfire has done its bit, thanks to the unlimited powers of the social media. Although it was slow on building the smoke, the smoke screen has now left not much for the wildest of imaginations to go a bit wilder.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi is a distinguished person indeed and a lawyer par excellence (this may be debatable though). But, no gift of the gab can save him his honour, it seems. His political graph has taken a nosedive that no soothsayer could predict.

The CD is alleged to have some audio purportedly saying- “So when are you becoming a judge”, but this has yet not been established by a competent authority. The person in the CD, allegedly making this statement is said to be the honourable Mr. Snghvi.

Though, Singhvi, in his resignation speak does a masterly act at self defense, some are still baying for his blood. There is an RTI that has been filed to figure out if the lady in the CD was indeed pitched as a person to be upped as a judge. The findings will take some time to arrive. Till then, Singhvi will have to spend some more sleepless nights.

But he may take a sigh of relief for some time. At least, the court injunction that he had taken in advance that the CD not be telecast has held him in good stead, even though the injury by social media has been damaging enough. Also, this bit about the conversation on becoming a judge has diverted the attention from the eagle eyes preying on a politician’s sex life. Considering that the interest quotient is more when such affairs are extra marital, Singhvi has still fared better compared to his other national and international counterparts (in the sexual relation episode).

One remembers Hillary Clinton on such occasions. And here is also a lesson to be learnt- Treat your driver well. (I know that you know what I mean). Else, he will drive you crazy!
