IPS officer living on Platform

While many in India are dreaming and envying about Central services like IAS and IPS, Sovick Chakravarthy, a former IPS  officer, lives  in penury  at the platforms of Puducherry. A Kolkata born Chakravarthy studied and grown up in Delhi. After clearing IPS, he started his career as SP at Puducherry  at 1983. He has worked in Arunachal pradesh. In New Delhi at the corridors of power he worked as a Deputy commissioner- VIP Security. Now fate has made him living in the platform along with other homeless tromps.

When TSI went to meet him, he was lying in a side on a mattress with a cigarette in hand and a liquor bottle half emptied. ''While I was working in New Delhi, problems started to appear in my personal life. So I resigned from my job in 1989. Circumstances forced a split with my wife and we divorced. She left me and gone to Bangalore with our son. Meanwhile I fell into drugs and liquors. I went to Goa where I spent six years. But I did not like the place. I needed solitude. I came to Puducherry six months before, " he told TSI.

First he stayed at a lodge. But it was not comfortable for him. After a brawl with somebody there, he decided to live on the platform just before the fire station near the beach. '' I am living here comfortably. The people here like me very much. I don’t eat much. Liquor and cigarettes are enough for me. I don’t like to go back to Delhi", Sovick Chakravarthy said.

Knowing that an IPS officer living in the platform, Higher officials in the police headquarters have arranged for higher security in the area. But the former IPS officer is unaware of this. When we leave him, he opened a beer bottle. The people around him told us, that there is no dearth of money for Chakravarthy and he spends lavishly.
