Investigative Journalism no Holy Cow

 

 

This is with reference to the article “Anything for TRPs” (TSI September 17, 2007). I also read your article “Porn in the tube” (TSI Spetember 13, 2007). What happened to the Delhi school teacher Uma Khurana, the victim of a fake sting operation, is really unfortunate. It has tarnished the image of our democracy. Operation Duryodhan and Tehelka were landmarks in our democratic tradition of investigative journalism. Such unethical method of news gathering can only further motivate the governments’ misguided attempt to regulate the media, through the Broadcast Bill. It is high time that our media got out of this voyeurism - sensationalism syndrome, at least for the sustenance of democracy.
