Nowadays people take it for granted that political leaders do not speak the truth. But a government is ‘of the people, by the people and for the people’. Keeping this in mind, the West Bengal Chief Minister must make it clear how the land was acquired in Singur for the Tata’s small car project. Most of the plots in Singur are alleged to have been taken forcibly and many farmers still have not collected their compensation. Much political struggle and turmoil has taken place and enormous energy, patience and resources have been lost.
