Income Tax officer gets 3 year rigorous imprisonment

The CBI court in Bhopal on Wednesday convicted the then Income Tax Officer, Bhopal to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.35 lakh in disproportionate assets case.

The CBI had registered a case on 13th September 1999 against S K Soni on the allegations that he had amassed huge wealth to the tune of Rs.6, 25, 000 disproportionate to his known sources of income.
 
The CBI had filed a charge sheet in 2001 against him and two others. All of them filed a criminal revision in the High Court challenging the charges framed against them. The High Court quashed the charges framed against one of the three accused in 2007. During trial, the other two accused died.

Trial court found the accused SK Soni guilty and convicted him.
