In a bid to strengthen the flying skills of its ace fighter pilots, the Indian Air Force is soon to acquire its first Full Mission Simulator which will have the capability of not just creating the real 3-Dimensional image of the ground but also a one-to-one dog fight manoeuvre as well.
The sources in IAF told TSI that this simulator will be in three parts. There will be a simulator on which the fighter pilot will sit and simulate flight. Another part of the simulator will be the Instructor’s Work Station which can give situations to the pilot, create emergency and also pitch one to one fight with a ghost enemy aircraft. The third important part of the simulator is going to be the server which will send and receive the command and will simulate the situation.
The simulator will be using GPRS system and will create a skyline and the ground which will resemble the real image of the things on ground. “It will show mountains, valleys, water bodies and the skyline which is just like the real situation.” told the source.
As envisioned by the senior commanders of the IAF, the use of simulators will significantly reduce both flying and fuel costs. It will improve the flying skills and most importantly, reduce the loss of life and equipment.
The flight safety strategy of the IAF clearly talks of helping its pilots by adopting the simulator based training as it will help in orientating the pilots well before they go for full fledged flying and further with the advent of technology whole operation will be conducted in a simulated situation. The flight safety strategy of Air Force enunciates that the advent of the modern simulators viz. mission and maintenance simulators has changed the mindset. Extensive use of simulators for training of aircrew and technical personnel is prudent and needs to be encouraged.
