How will Kejriwal's party be different from others?

Even before the name of Arvind Kejriwal’s party was announced, questions are being raised as to how his party will be different from other political dispensations.

 

Top leaders of the yet to be named party tried to answer these questions during the launch rally on Tuesday.

 

Explaining some of the things about the party, senior IAC member Manish Sisodia said, “People hate political parties in India because they have given ways to wrong practices.”

 

“In other parties there is no mechanism to investigate the wrong deed of the partymen, but in our party we will have a mechanism to probe our party members. We will constitute a Lokpal within the party who will be able to investigate all the malpractices,” he added.

 

He said that the party will also disclose all the sources of the money collected, through internet and media. “There will be no place for dynastic politics in party. Only one member of a family will be able to contest election from the party, any other member after that will not get the ticket,” he argued.

 

He further explained that, “Any person who will contest Lok Sabha election from our party will have to give an affidavit to the people of his area promising that he would never take a car with red beacon. He would also have to swear that he would not take extra security as this should be for the people not for him,” Manish said.

 

Citing examples of such mechanism in other countries, top leader of the party Arvind Kejriwal said, “This party has been formed to change the system. We want the people to rule the country. In Switzerland, if 50,000 people sign a letter saying such bill should be passed in the parliament, then the government has to bring that bill in parliament. If one lakh people sign a letter saying that constitution should be amended, then it is presented in the parliament. The people can change constitution in these countries.” There are several other promises like these, which have been made by the party.

 

Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched his political party but is yet to finalise a name for the outfit. He said that the name of the party will be announced on November 26, the day on which the Constitution was adopted in 1949.
