“Housefull” is a house full of lies! It isn’t really funny thanks to the unlimited supply of dim-witted jokes and slapstick comedy gone bad and Sajid Khan pulls too far on a string which has already been strummed several times. With reflections from films like “No Entry” and “All The Best” (not the greatest source material in the first place, mind you) Sajid has tried too hard to pull off a mediocre comedy flick with expensive A-list actors and better locations. Of course, the story has no juice and appears dry, abrupt and poorly edited. The music still has something going for the movie but not for too long.
“Housefull” narrates the story of Arush (Askhay Kumar), who is a victim of bad luck perpetually. Arush quits his job to meet his friend and to gather will power and strength from the one person who doesn’t feel Arush is ‘bad luck’. Arush then has a strong belief that once he gets married, he would ‘get lucky’ (quite literally!).
But then, Sajid couldn’t refrain from throwing in the twists of mistaken identities and unsolicited confusion so as to accentuate the horrendous humour. Things keep going downhill embarrassingly during the climax sequence at the Queen’s Buckingham Palace where laughing gas has leaked. There are a few interesting comedy sequences (with Chunky Pandey mostly) but when you have to depend on Chunky Pandey to make your film funny, you’re skating on very thin creative ice. No matter what the makers claim, the film does not have even an iota of intelligence.
