Hockey India shortlists Women Probables for Olympic Qualifier

The Hockey India selectors have shortlisted the names of the probable women players for Olympic Qualification Tournament starting from February 18.

From the list of 48 players 32 have been pruned down as probables for this tournament. Olympians Col. Balbir Singh, BP Govinda, Syed Ali and Rekha Bhide observed the performances of Indian players during recently concluded India- Azerbaijan four test match series.

Along with these selectors two Government Observers, Harbinder Singh and Dilip Tirkey, were also present during these matches to judge the temperament and skills of different players.

Indian women team won the four test match series 4-0 but despite that they looked weak in many areas. The 32 probables will now participate in the coaching camp to pluck all the loopholes in their game.

Olympic Qualification Tournament will be played from 18-25 February, 2012 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Apart from India the other teams participating teams are South Africa, Italy, Canada, Ukraine and Poland.

The final list of eighteen players and the standby players will be announced in the first week of February.
