Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’Hoole

Based on the first three books of the children’s series “Guardians of Ga’Hoole”, written by Kathryn Lasky, and directed by Zach Snyder (“Watchmen”), “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” is undoubtedly the prettiest animated & CGI (computer-generated imagery) movie of the year with “wow” moments filled in throughout the film. The movie, however, ends up disappointingly. Two sibling owlets, Soren and Kludd, get kidnapped by an evil breed of owls who are trying to invade the other owl kingdoms, calling themselves, “the pure ones”. As destiny would have it, one brother is the good guy (the owl here, Soren), who is a dreamer and thrives on stories of legendary guardians told by his dad. Whereas the other brother, Kludd, is itching to make a mark of his own and is jealous of
his brother, Soren. Soren escapes the evil ones and travels to find the fabled guardians while Kludd sticks to the evil ones, thus ending up on two distinct sides in the final battle.

 
A familiar story with extraordinary visuals worked for “Avatar” but would not work for “Legends of the Guardians” because it does not do justice to the characters and the relationships shown in the movie. It is rather too mechanical as if each character is just meant to support Soren’s journey to heroism. But, one has got to give immense credit and respect to the technical team behind this flick, for the animation is totally breathtaking and the battle scene being extremely well done. As told to Soren by his legendary guardian in the movie, “Trust your gizzard” and go for it!
