People who lose their limbs use artificial ones to help them to walk/write etc. But salamanders and newts in the same situation don’t need doctors or artificial body parts. They can grow limbs back on their own! British scientists discovered that this is due to a protein called nAG which when added to stem cells in the limb causes the limb to grow. Scientists say that the nerves in the stub of the limb signal the release of the nAG protein, which then starts the regeneration process.
